Fernanda Muñoz-Newsome presents a performative and participatory offering, exploring research from summer 2024 for Protozone15: Time is Pressure. Through voice and movement practices, working with spatial acoustics in live and recorded material, she invites the audience into an activated space.

INCHOATE BUZZ (2022)

Leah Walkers film expands on artist and choreographer Fernanda Muñoz-Newsome’s performance project INCHOATE BUZZ. The film is both documentation and extension of the live event, performed in summer 2022 at the London Contemporary Music Festival and features live works from Fernanda Muñoz-Newsome, SERAFINE1369, Mica Levi, Isabel Rosa Muñoz-Newsome, Nkisi and Eve Stainton.

 

INCHOATE BUZZ project merges Muñoz-Newsome’s practices of performance, collaboration and curation. Core collaborators are sound designer/ new media artist Josh Anio Grigg, artist and researcher India Harvey and light designer Charlie Hope, who create an immersive environment for the live work.

BIOS
Of English-Chilean descent, Fernanda Muñoz-Newsome is a London-based artist, choreographer, dancer and researcher creating immersive performances and workshops. Through somatic practice and her process driven approach, she explores the potentials of solo and collective embodied power and the temporary building of micro-communities. Collaboration is key, crafting ecologies of liveness, risk, care, and access. Her work shifts perspectives, rippling between human and more-than-human space-time. Approaching dance and voice through the deep poetics of the body and the contradictions of how to be in the world.

Her works INCHOATE BUZZ and LET THE BODY toured with CONTINUOUS Network to Nottingham Contemporary (2021) and Tramway, Glasgow (2023). In 2019 she received a Jerwood New Work Fund and curated a Wild Card at Sadlers Wells where INCHOATE BUZZ premiered. In 2021-2022 she received a Live Art Commission from Roberts Institute of Art, making GO GO GO BEYOND. A commission from TBA21 in 2022 went to Cordoba, Spain in An Ocean Without Shores festival. Presenting works at Nottingham Contemporary (2021), ICA (2020), E-Werk Luckenwalde (2019), Block Universe (2019), Sadlers Wells (2019), RIA (2018), Palais de Tokyo (2018), Siobhan Davies Studios (2017), TATE (2017) and Barbican (2015) amongst others.

 

Leah Walker is a filmmaker and artist who works across food, events, sculpture and sound. Their work grows out of collaborations within their community and focuses on consensual, queer and love-oriented ways of viewing the world. Leah is best known for making music videos with Tirzah and the extended family, Curl etc. and feeding affordable up-cycled food in South East London galleries as part of ChatsCafe.
